Attend The Church Of Your Choice or God’s Choice?
How many times do we hear the invitation: Attend the church of your choice? Just because we show up in attendance each Sunday doesn’t mean God is there. Which begs the question, what’s the difference between the church of your choice, as opposed to the church of God’s choice.
Doctrine of Men
God’s choice doesn’t have the doctrines of men contained therein. The doctrine of Christ, the apostolic doctrine is the only doctrine that is pleasing unto God. 2 Jn 9; Acts 2:42 It is in vain, a pure waste of time to worship God with the teachings of mankind. Mt 15:7-9 The doctrines of men lead us from the truth of God. Tit 1:14 Paul wrote Titus to speak that which becomes sound doctrine. Tit 2:1 He wrote also to Timothy to hold firm to the sound words which proceeded from him in faith and love, which also is in Christ. 2 Tim 1:13
The gospel of Christ is the only gospel acceptable with God’s church. If we preach any other gospel we are accursed. Gal 1:8,9 It is the only means of entry into (the body) the church of Christ. Acts 2:37-47; 1 Cor 12:13,27 The church of God’s choice speaks only the oracles of God, and doesn’t go beyond that which was written in the scriptures. 1 Pet 4:11; 1 Cor 2:13; 1 Cor 4:6
God’s choice doesn’t have instrumental music. The apostle Paul said we are to sing, and make music in our hearts to the Lord. Eph 5:19 Luke wrote that God is not worshiped or served with human hands. Acts 17:25 God is only worshiped in Spirit (according to the scriptures) and in truth. Jn 4:22-24 Therefore, to worship God with the use of instruments of music is not how God desires to be worshiped. He desires us to use our voices to sing praises to him even as we pray, with Spirit, (according to the scriptures) and with the Understanding also. 1 Cor 14:15
God’s choice doesn’t worship disorderly. All can’t be speaking at the same time, and be orderly in the assembly. God has a specific order in which all true Christians must follow. God is the head of Christ, Christ is the head of man, and man is the head of woman. 1 Cor 11:3 To this end God placed man over the woman in the family, and in the church. Eph 5:23 This is the reason for Paul’s admonition for women to be silent in the churches. 1 Cor 14:33-45 Woman is not to lead singing, lead prayer, preach or teach in the churches, but are to remain silent. Even if she has a question that requires an answer, it can’t be answered in the assembly. Women in and out of the assembly can’t teach the Word of God, or take leadership over the man. 1 Tim 2:11-15
Though Christ is the head of the church, all are subject to the rule of the elders in the churches, who in turn must give an account for the souls which follow them. Col 1:18; Heb 13:7,17 Nevertheless, though woman is under the man, and man is under Christ, we are all under God, and must abide by his hierarchy both in and out of the church. These are not the commandments of Paul, or the apostles, but of Christ. 1 Cor 14:37
It’s true, most attend the church of their choice, and to this end, they have the prerogative to do so. However, God also has the prerogative not to attend such churches which violate his commandments. God is not present where his gospel is not present. God is not present where his doctrine is not taught. God is not present where men and women are not worshiping him in Spirit and in Truth. God is not present where His hierarchy is not being followed. Let us all seek to worship God according to His rules, his commandments, and his laws, and then we can all truly say, the church of my choice is the church of God’s choice. The churches of Christ greet you. Rom 16:16
